PBS, parent company of NPR gets $525 million a year from the US Government. In the past three or so years, NPR which has always had a leftwing bent has become unlistenable. Just for the fun of it, I'll tune in when I get into the car, I hear one of four themes:

1. War on Gaza (always anti-Israel)
2. War in Ukraine
3 Some story involving climate change
4 Some story involving gays or trans.

And now add to that apoplectic stories about the evil of Trump. The other day they had a "journalist" on who is just so depressed and on edge about Trump, talking about how everything was so calm for the past four years. No effort at all to be even-handed. NPR has lost the small amount of credibility it ever had, and it's just gone full-bore leftwing all the time. No way in the hell the government should be funding it.

Most NPR listeners are leftwingers who fancy themselves as more educated and cultured than others. They often work for universities or other government subsidized enterprises. They attend wine-tastings and watch TCM movies. They eat out at vegan restaurants and hang out at shops in the historic section of town. They attend poetry readings and gush over unintelligible nonsense. They visit art museums and fuss over abstract sculptures and paintings a toddler might produce. They think they are better than red-state rubes. In reality, they are unintelligent gullible wannabes who buy Marxist lies.

Let's remove government funding and see if NPR is truly "listener-supported".

IMHO removing all Federal Funding from NPR is a no-brainer; the Federal Government has no business funding a propaganda arm, should have never been given a single taxpayer penny.

They probably are more left wing because that is where the money is, but I know conservatives who listen to the classical music stations, just not the talk radio ones. I really don't care if they cut funding or not though. I can't imagine that it is that expensive to run a station. They may just have to cut back one of their multiple stations in some listening areas.

I used to listen to Car Talk and Garrison Keillor's monologues. The guys on Car Talk were funny. The older brother died, though. I tried to ignore Keillor's liberal bent, but even he got bit by the #metoo crap.

It's costing taxpayers over a half a billion dollars a year to run those stations which distribute nothing but left-wing propaganda. If they believe that the left wing is "where the money is", let them compete in the free market like everybody Else, good luck with that.

I don't know about You, but I don't want a single penny of my tax money funding any sort of media outlet, state run media is a definite red line.

You shouldn't talk about her that way in public. I am sure, she is a very nice lady, and you should leave her radio alone.:auiqs.jpg:

NPR is nothing more than a democrat infomercial that has been creating useful idiots for decades.
It should have been canceled years ago. PBS should be defunded.

There is a program on Sunday afternoon which is actually good at times that she listens to on entrepreneurs getting business advice from a panel of experts. Sometimes the businesses are PC and wonky. Other times it's good.

NPR doesn't actually own any stations. Though your half billion dollar number goes the corporation for public broadcasting, they are required by law to use a chunk of it to fund national programming. Individual stations can decide what they buy with the money or not buy with the money from the buffet of content available to them. About 18% are community stations and the remaining 82% are university affiliated stations. In other words, tax payers will be funding most of them with or without the money so as far as throwing them into the free market, good luck with that too.

I hear classical music when I turn it on just like when I worked at KUAF, NPR in Fayetteville, Arkansass.

You're right, the over half a billion a year is going to production costs not station operations, which IMHO is even worse. As I said before IMHO the Federal Government has no business being in the media business in any way, shape or form.

Those stations carrying that content are getting that content at a taxpayer subsidized price, so in effect the taxpayers are subsidizing the stations that choose to carry that content. If they want to carry that content fine but they need to pay the full price for it including unsubsidized production costs.

I miss Click and Clack, the tappet Brothers.

I wonder why Trump didn't do all of this cost-cutting during his 1st term?

They all seem like no-brainers.
