I don't need convincing.

A couple of years ago, my niece visited me here in the Midwest, from her home on the West Coast, where she got to know my Mini Aussie Zoey quite well. At the same time, Deb was going through the loss of my husband with me, whom she loved a lot.

Unfortunately, I said goodbye to Zoey a few months before my niece came.

When the girl showed up on my porch, we hugged each other and she sobbed -- not tears of joy at seeing me or tears of condolence for the loss of my husband, but real pain at walking up to my house and not being greeted by Zoey.
