We in the Navajo beliefs have mythical creation personages.

The LDS have personages in their creation myths endowments that they perform in their temples.

The Hopi do incorporate creation personages into their kiva ceremonies—especially through the presence of Katsinam (Kachinas), who are central to their spiritual and cosmological beliefs.

We talk about the Saints every day! What wonderful companions they are!

I especially like St. Rose of Lime, whose feast was just a few days ago. She was a model of kindness to all. In a time in Peru, when Spanish descended people would not touch natives or blacks, she gave what was, at the time, medical care to brown and black slaves and other poor people.

Admirable.

I didn't know (remember, that is) holiness until ... 2 things

1) I began praying the rosary
2) I began making my way back to the Catholic Church.

As to 2) I remember walking into a Catholic Church after having been out of it for many years. I could feel the holiness and it kind of scared me--it was so strong. (I remember this day like it was yesterday even though it was decades ago.)

I thought to myself as I looked around at the people there

"This place is too holy. I'm not so holy, so I don't belong here."

I'm glad I got over that ridiculous thought. :)

today is the day of Augustine of Hippo
.

Saint, theologian, Doctor of the Church.

As father spoke about St. Augustine today, he pointed out that he was African and most probably black, and then he pointed out the likelihood that the Catholic Church is the most diverse organization in the world, where whites are probably the minority.

Makes you wonder, huh?

The Fourteen Holy Helpers are a group of saints venerated together in the Catholic tradition, especially in Germany, for their powerful intercession during times of illness and distress. Their collective devotion emerged during the 14th century, particularly in the Rhineland, as a spiritual response to the devastation of the Black Death2.

🌟 Who They Are

These saints were believed to offer protection against specific ailments or dangers. Here's the traditional lineup:

🕊️ Historical Significance

  • Their cult grew during the plague years, when people sought divine protection from sudden death and disease.
  • Pope Nicholas V even attached indulgences to their veneration in the 15th century, though these are no longer in effect.
  • They were often depicted together in art and invoked in liturgical and personal prayers.

🎨 Cultural Impact

In some regions, especially Bavaria, chapels and shrines were built in their honor. The Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers in Bad Staffelstein, Germany, remains a pilgrimage site to this day.

In German they are one word: Vierzehnheiligen 🙂

= four teen Saints 🙂

The two I know best are St. Denis and St. Blaise. Our priest never misses giving us the Blessing of St. Blaise on his feast day, and everyone waits in line after Mass is over!

I prayed for St. Denis' intercession for our bishop, who had to take some time off to deal with migraines. His Excellency is back to work, praise God!

Thanks for reminding me! Being a new Catholic, I still need to get our calendar figured out. I'm so new that I still have my Confirmation candle, but I need to remember to get more candles blessed.

Candlemas is always on February 2

It used to be an important date in the year for farmers.
Now it is known as graoundhog day in the US,

In Germany it is called Mariä Lichtmess ❤️🌺🌹🙂
