Wrong again.
Trump illegally expanded the law to included:
- Nationwide application: Instead of limiting expedited removal to border regions, Trump’s policy allowed it to apply anywhere in the U.S..
- Longer presence threshold: Under Trump, undocumented immigrants who had been in the U.S. for less than two years could be deported without a court hearing, compared to Clinton’s 14-day limit.
- Increased enforcement: Trump directed ICE and DHS to prioritize deportations beyond just criminals, affecting a broader range of undocumented individuals.
This expansion meant that
many undocumented immigrants who had lived in the U.S. for months or even over a year—but were not previously subject to expedited removal—became
deportable without judicial review.
