Does this sound like a good idea to anyone?

Not sure what the issue is since liberals have already told us China will fund this stuff.
Will China be funding this stuff?

Trump administration revokes state and local health funding

The Department of Health and Human Services is canceling tens of billions of dollars in federal grants that state and local health departments were using to track infectious diseases, health disparities, vaccinations, mental health services, and other health issues.

The stop-work notices began arriving late Monday night or early Tuesday morning and were effective immediately, sending officials scrambling.

Cuz why not? It isn't like states have a need for that money.

Measles Cases in Kansas May Be Linked to Texas Outbreak

Measles cases in Kansas more than doubled in the last week, bringing the tally to 20, while another outbreak in Ohio has sickened 10 people, local public health officials reported on Wednesday.

There have been several large outbreaks in the United States this year, including one in West Texas that has spread to more than 320 people and hospitalized 40. Health officials have worried that the Texas outbreak may be seeding others.

More than 40 measles cases have been reported in New Mexico, and seven have been identified in Oklahoma. In both states, health officials said the infections were connected to the Texas outbreak.

In Kansas, the virus has mainly infected unvaccinated children in the southwest corner of the state. Genetic sequencing has suggested a link to the Texas and New Mexico outbreaks, state health officials told The New York Times on Wednesday.

U.S. measles outbreak spreading ‘like a forest fire’

How about this one:

Stopping communicable diseases in other countries BEFORE they arrive on your shores, is saving American lives at home, not to mention the costs of dealing with these outbreaks when they happen.

In the real world, it's called "enlightened self interest", or "Doing well, while doing good". It's no different than dealing with terrorists in their home countries rather than after they blow up your buildings.
Let Canada supply them.

The movement to lower costs for space is a good one. We do not spend massive resources on it. We do spend resources on political agendas. And that has caused waste in NASA. Value for the dollar will get us so much more. We are slowly transitioning to private side under NASA rules and overseeing reducing prices in huge numbers. I do think we can at least orbit Mars. Even a station around it relatively cheap if we get private side rocketry that works.
Globalization made the US rich. How can we maintain that and go forward into space, if we throw it away? The administration says the world costs us money, when in actuality it’s what made America succeed. Trump wants to throw that all away, despite profiting personally from foreign trade. Remarkably dumb!

Yes. "Poor countries" have to get their own house in order.
We're in massive debt, stupid Stalinberg.
We've got to get our own house in order FIRST.

Pax Americana made us rich. The world borders were our territorial borders. We took care of ourselves. We had thousands of men who created massive industrial and manufacturing abilities making our lives easier and having hard work to do so. We had the resources and the will of people who came here from other nations who had gravitas. If we have problems today, is it because we have massive social program expenses. I tis difficult to get great economic growth with that as compared to rising nations that do not have that and do have people who are hungry to live much better when before they were living off the dirt.

U.S. to End Vaccine Funds for Poor Countries

The Trump administration intends to terminate the United States’ financial support for Gavi, the organization that has helped purchase critical vaccines for children in developing countries, saving millions of lives over the past quarter century, and to significantly scale back support for efforts to combat malaria, one of the biggest killers globally.

The administration has decided to continue some key grants for medications to treat H.I.V. and tuberculosis, and food aid to countries facing civil wars and natural disasters.

Those decisions are included in a 281-page spreadsheet that the United States Agency for International Development sent to Congress Monday night, listing the foreign aid projects it plans to continue and to terminate. The New York Times obtained a copy of the spreadsheet and other documents describing the plans.

The documents provide a sweeping overview of the extraordinary scale of the administration’s retreat from a half-century-long effort to present the United States to the developing world as a compassionate ally and to lead the fight against infectious diseases that kill millions of people annually.

U.S. to End Vaccine Funds for Poor Countries

I thought when it came to stuff like this people working for the admin would resign in protest. This and so many other things. The kind of abject inhumanity, affecting millions, that you have to go out of your way to pursue. The kind of thing trump does by fiat because he knows how unpopular it would be if members of Congress had to vote on it. Which they should.
Just another case of the US having to fund everything in the world. We can sell them the vaccines. Problem solved.

IOW, let them eat cake.
There are many rich countries in the world which could provide vaccines to these people and yet the world expects the US, with our 37 trillion dollar national debt, to do the funding. Why aren't those countries stepping up to the plate?

I guess you don't understand how dishonest the whole process is. 80 to 90% of the funds and the benefits are scooped on the other end by the political solons who run the place.
I'm All for continuing the activity under a different delivery system that doesn't allow for skimming of both product and money. The moment you try to use one of those systems you will be denied access to the area.

The head of the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command was removed from his job on Thursday, according to the top Democrats on the congressional intelligence committees.

Senator Mark Warner of Virginia and Representative Jim Himes of Connecticut condemned the ouster of Gen. Timothy D. Haugh, who led both the spy agency and the military command.

The move caught intelligence officials off guard.

A spokeswoman for Cyber Command said she could not confirm General Haugh’s removal, and referred questions to the Pentagon, which did not respond to a request for comment. A White House spokeswoman did not confirm the ouster.

But a U.S. official briefed on the matter said Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and outside adviser to President Trump, called for General Haugh’s removal during her Oval Office meeting on Thursday. Mr. Trump ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to fire General Haugh, the official said.

I didn't realize Laura is a national security expert. ;)

If you like it, it must be an exceedingly bad idea.
