they were not banned.....

Why do you keep claiming that? Essentially -- it's an incremental ban.. When you write a spec for stuff and EXCLUDE an object by design --- It's a ban.. And a spec that doesn't make much sense since Incand. bulbs are 100% efficient anytime the Central Heat is on in my home..

i say it because i can still by Incandescent bulbs....and i live in a State that loves banning things....and because i believe Congress overturned the ban....

They were not banned, but Congress overturned the ban?

I like your post.

But lets get back to the topic (sort of).

Why do you think we have the aversion? I think it is because of the time it takes to get from point A to point B. So I think the bullet train has some pluses in that department.

Public transit is very much an "all or nothing" proposition. It requires sustained commitment which the government isn't good at providing.

I think that us Americans have been programmed into a love affair with our cars. I live in the sticks and work in a small town. There is no public transportation, so I drive every day. However, if I worked in the city, I'd love the idea of not having to fight traffic, waste gas sitting in traffic jams and coming to work stressed out before my workday even started.

But that's me. There are still way too many people that think that their car is their little oasis on the road, feel entitled to **** up the air in the cities, and to drive the most impractical, gas guzzling vehicles that they can...stupid false sense of bravado and an idiotic status measurement....that really? In the big picture only makes them look shallow as hell.

Now, do I give a shit if some jackoff wants a Hummer or a big Mercedes? Not at all. But let's be reasonable. If a person can afford a vehicle like that, they can afford a practical, fuel Efficient car for their commutes....or take mass transit.

I think the time it takes is secondary(at least), or else people wouldn't even think about waiting in traffic like I've seen in our cities..,I've been through DC, rode with a buddy of mine who is a truck driver into LA, the "Surekill" expressway that goes into Philly and have driven into NYC. Hell, even more locally for me...the Harrisburg traffic is ridiculous.

No...I think it's a mindset.

Maybe the government can outlaw Hummers and big Mercedes. Would that make you happy?

You're a moron. If I were the Marxist you THINK I am....I'd rather have assholes like you sent to re-education camps...BUAHAHAHA!

Well, the verdict is in...California should be required to pay for their high-speed rail themselves. No Federal Tax Dollars should be used. Lets hope our Representatives deny them the Fed funds. Stay tuned.

Think of it as a modernizing the transcontinental railroad, a railroad that the government spent so much money on in the 1800's, in fact, maybe high speed could be built cross-country and compete with the airlines.

I think lots of people would enjoy that leisurely trip across the country on a high speed train. I know I would take the trip.

Don't think a broke-ass govt should be funding "entertainment venues" for folks who might occasionally maybe once use it. Go to Epcot instead. And buy a National Geo US travelogue with pretty pictures.

I'd give you 5 times the current transcont. ridership and $20 profit per ticket and it would STILLL TAKE a thousand years to pay it back.

It would be great if they could utilize magnetic levitation (MAGLEV) technology, at least for some of the sections of the route.

I should think of it as a modern version of the graft and corruption that built the transcontinental railroad? Will it include forced labor and prostitution? Strike breaking through starvation? Army raids on Indians along the route?

My suggestion to you, learn some history.

Not more than once.

I'm pretty sure it would. Nanny/Police Staters just love banning things.

GIVE US OUR DAMN LIGHT BULBS BACK!!

By your logic, when the EPA increases car efficiency requirements, that's a ban on less efficient cars.

I'm sure the government would be thrilled if every American in their lifetime rode the high-speed train across the country one time in their life. That would probably generate a ****-ton of money over time. Like, you know, pay for its existence and shit; like the subways and trains in New York, Chicago, and Boston.

It isn't a government train, it belongs to a private company.

One wouldn't need to go from NYC to LA more than once or twice, but there would be stops along the way that could be one's destination. Go 3,000 miles or 100 miles, take you pick.

Since Californians also pay federal taxes, should they not get some of them back by funding projects such as this one? And BTW, California gets back a lot less back from the federal government than they pay in.

So the real question is whether Californians should feel as if they are being taken advantage of since they get back much less than most states, especially red states, yet they pay in much more than those same red states. Man, they are getting fucked; it's no wonder they are so far in debt. There really ought to be an investigation.

Uh, we all pay federal taxes. It's not some anomaly to Californians. And the point of it is not to get as much back as you send it. See, by that mind numbing logic, the federal government would shut down in an hour. Your federal taxes are intended to go to federal responsibilities - you know, congressional salaries, white house salaries, defense, FBI, etc. You're not supposed to get back ANY of your taxes from the federal government (unless you over paid of course, but that's a different subject). Taxes are not an investment my confused friend. Their intended to fund the entity that is taxing you. You're not supposed to get it back :cuckoo:

Good grief, is it any wonder this nation is $16 trillion in debt and collapsing with Americans like this out there...?

But of course you have no problem with red states getting back much more than they pay. You cons are so laughable. And you constantly try to convince us that only the private market can create jobs, yet you don't understand that many big private businesses owe their existence to government contracts. Simpleton minds always come through with simpleton answers; the problem is that they rarely work.
Nothing much more "simpleton" then taxing the shit out of the citizenry and imagining that the effort required to spend those funds are real jobs.

Lots of real jobs created by Eisenhower to build the highway system. Lots created in the Depression to build the Hoover damn, the Golden Gate Bridge.

Interesting. Eisenhower created lots of real jobs, and paid the wages with other peoples money. If I could operate a business so, I'd employ everyone.

That's how we pay for our infrastructure ... it's called taxes.
The economy boomed from that highway project.
