A lot of people feel that professional athletes are overpaid, especially in this inflation and inequality economy.....do you believe so? Why or why not?

for me it depends on the athlete.....if this person sells tickets, then yes.....if this person does not sell tickets but is dam good and has contributed to the wins the team has....yes here too.....all the other avg players should get a lot less....

Most professional athletes, at least in the contact sports, have a very short shelf life so earn it while you can.

The average length of a NFL career is 3.3 years.....NBA 4.4.....MLB 5.6.....NHL 5 years.

Looks like golf is where it's at.

Charles Howell III started his PGA professional career in 2000, winning only three times, but he has played in 595 events and earned over $41 million.

Sounds like Brady and Gronkowski. Maybe those averages would go up if they didn't become mega millionaires with one contract. Gee, I don't know what I'd do if someone offered me a paltry 20 million dollars a year. Maybe play one year?

The capitalist market will answer and that's all that's relevant.

It really should only be communists and socialists who need to ask the question.

So long as they're not building their own stadiums?

Yes. It's their business and they should be the ones building it, maintaining it, paying the taxes on it, purchasing the insurance, etc, etc, etc,.......

America's style of capitalism hasn't held true to those priorities.

But I can't say more without having to turn to a socialist's POV on the question.

And nobody has asked to hear that yet.

So I'll open the box: I have reservations based on the undue influence billionaires have on the people who need to survive on minimum wages or even less in America.

The entire pop culture entertainment environment is overpaid. There is nothing we can do about it except to grow up but the craziest thing is when their pin head opinions about politics are considered relevant.

Everyone can try and become one and get paid well, only a few make it.

I could be wrong, but being overpaid or underpaid could be an issue no matter what the field of work is. In other words, we all might be getting too much or not even close to enough. Who knows.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. At the end of the day, all we may be able to do is be thankful for whatever it is that we do get.

Or increase your skills, build a better mousetrap and improve your lot in life if you are dissatisfied. Not go after something that some other person has persevered and earned.

It doesn't matter what you or I think.

Only the people who pay them, and the athletes themselves, can agree what what is a fair rate of compensation.

I do not think athletes are overpaid.

Professional sports are the closest thing we have to a true meritocracy in our country, and I am a firm believer in meritocracy no matter the field.

I believe that I don't want the gov't or anyone else to decide how much a person should be paid. It's more than just how well he/she performs, it's also about how many people pay to watch. That's why the lady soccer players get only a fraction of what the men are paid, they don't draw as much interest in terms of money.
