Israel is the biggest problem in the Middle East.

Cut our ties and treaties with that rogue nation.

And 90% of our Middle East problems will disappear.

We have the capability to invade and occupy Iran and almost any other county in the world with the exception of China and Russia. But a war with Iran would not be an outright invasion. We may land limited troops in hit and run operations but no outright invasion is in the works.

You misunderstand the concept of 'invasion' Iran like other countries is a soverign nation. By our landing of troops even 'limited trops in hit and run ops' is an invasion and is grounds for retaliation. You are also misguided in your concept of our 'having the capability to invade and occupy Iran and almost any other nation". We have the capability to invade but the concept of 'occupying
is doubtful especially over the long haul (90 days +).

That is the essential problem. Unless we are willing to run Iran the way we ran Germany and Japan any occupation will be bloody and pointless. The modern American is not prepared for the kind of housecleaning that would require.

Militarily, it would probably be a lot harder slog than Iraq. There is more popular support. But the military is not the issue. Running the place for a long time and then supervising the place for 70 years is just plain no longer to our taste.

The insertion of Spec ops in limited incursions usually is viewed as a hostile act but not something I would term as an invasion. The Mexican army accidentally crossed the border last year into the US, was it an invasion? We send Spec Ops into Pakistan, are we invading them? What is the threshold between an incursion or an invasion, or is there one?

Of course we would not be inserting troops if hostile action was not imminent or taking place so retaliation is a moot point since at this point we would be in a shooting war.

As to occupation, we can occupy the country but subduing the country is another matter. We could, if we desired, flood Afghanistan with troops and pretty well pacify it but the cost is too prohibitive in terms of funding to do so.
