Let’s put aside the merits of leftwing American politics. We’ll just agree to disagree on that for now. Let’s just discuss the viability of GOP economics which is the fantasy of trickledown/supply side economics. Sure that shit sounds good until - you know - one thinks about it from a logical standpoint. Giving corporations more capital to sell products doesn’t somehow translate into more demand from the consumers. That isn’t how economics work. Our economy is a CONSUMER driven economy. It depends on people spending money. That is how it has ALWAYS worked. Corporations in this day age are wealthier than ever before. That means that when they get big tax breaks, they don’t invest the money they save. Why? Because it’s easier to just keep it. Why invest in labor if they are already wealthier than ever before?
Doesn’t it bother republicans that the GOP does NOTHING for the middle class? A strong middle class is how you keep this economy viable because they are the biggest CONSUMERS. A time will come when this economy will fail because of GOP economics. Rich people can’t stay rich if the wages of the middle class and poor remain way behind on inflation.
How can one possibly justify GOP policy?
Just because there are poor people does not mean the system isnt working. Not everyone remains in the middle class, they also move up, but it doesn't always happen in one generation. A family does reasonably well, is able to have their three kids go to college perhaps and do much better than the parents. Thats sort of the American Dream, but now you get these Communists like Sanders who wants to promise everything
right now, to
everybody. And all you have to do is take it from the RICH!
Oh my where have we seen this before?
The so called experts said the U.S. economy was going to tank as soon as Trump took office, so now we are supposed to believe you?......and,
"Giving corporations more capital to sell products doesn’t somehow translate into more demand from the consumers. That isn’t how economics work. "
Your over simplifying the whole Selling Products thing. maybe in the process of "selling" products, that translates into creating more jobs or services .. or involving other vendors who can also create more jobs.
You don't think when Walgreens opens another store, that a team of Architects gets paid? you don't think there may be staff in their office who have jobs? You don't think civil engineers work on the project? you don't think the guy who drives the cement truck gets paid? you don't think the guy who drops off the rebar gets paid? You don't think plumbers and electricians get paid?
You don't think that a real estate broker and his staff don't get paid? you don't think real estate attorneys and their staff get paid? Surveyors, labs who do soil testing don'y get paid? Carpenters, Masons, Glass installers, carpet layers, painters.... NONE of them get paid?
You don't think when they all get money in their pockets they don't go out and spend it? If you tax the hell out of all corporations do you really think THAT is going to make them hire more people and open more stores? i don't think so.
