I think it is split around 50/50 - between veggies who do it for the percieved health benefits, and the "Look At Me" types.

I like to grow my own veggies because they're good, practically free food, and it's good exercise. I smoke and do all kinds of other unhealthy stuff. Who wants to live forever anyways?
