They are social animals, and use that to their advantage. The entire pack raises and protects the young. The older animals are also protected. And their stamina and pack tactics mean they can take down larger prey, in order to feed the hunters and those who cannot hunt as well.

Your claims that nobles despised they hunting tactics is ridiculous. The nobility have bred several types of dogs specifically for their hunting skills.
