South Korea fought alongside the US in the Vietnam War. Between 1964 and 1973, over 320,000 South Korean troops were deployed to Vietnam to support the American-led effort against communist North Vietnam. This was the largest contingent of any US ally in the conflict.

I've read about S. Koreans fighting alongside the US in the Vietnam war. I believe it was called White Horse Division. American soldiers wrote about them having Viet-Cong heads on spikes in front of their barbed wire perimeter.

If the NORKs ever decide to go South a US general would have overall command of the forces currently in Korea. the US and South Korea have a long history of working together.

ROK/US Combined Forces Command - Wikipedia

Despite the impression of total American control of the Republic of Korea's armed forces via the CFC, during peacetime the Korean units are wholly independent. Only during wartime would the Korean military come under the operational command of the CFC.

I had occasion to speak with a ROK Marine while deployed there and I was impressed with his professionalism. I didn't ever hear any reports of less than exemplary service by any S. Korean military member.

You can disregard such bull shit. My base camp was next to ROKs. Barbed wire, yes. Heads on spikes, no.
