It's part of Farm/Ranch life.
My Dad worked in town as an Engineer but he had the family on a 200 acre Farm. Most of it untillable but we had Beef Cattle, raised some chickens, had a Milk Cow (Bessie, of course) a few hogs and a Horse. No sheep. No goats.
And two dogs. Good dogs. Saved my ass a couple times. Everybody had a Farm Dog or two. Sometimes one would go bad and start killing chickens or calves or whatever it could get hold of. And it was a big deal to have to put a Dog down. It was no fun. You had to act like it was no big deal but it was. Emotionally; to most people. But you can't have a dog going around killing, not just your livestock but the neighbors as well. They get kinda pissy about that.
So he has to be put down.
City people and 'Burbies don't understand that. And that's okay, I don't care what those people don't understand.
Just an FYI, Farm Life is different.
