Because Russia used to have its nukes in the Ukraine as well, the Ukraine is INSIDE the Russian defense grid.
That means if the Ukraine were allowed to join NATO, we could install first strike capable nukes in the Ukraine, and Russia would have no warning until they exploded on targets.
Obviously Russia can never allow that.
So this has NOTHING at all to do with "making babies".
