Derek Harris, a black Louisiana man who was sentenced to life in prison for selling less than $30 worth of marijuana, has been freed after 10 years

Derek Harris didn't get a life sentence for selling marijuana.
He had been convicted of other felonies, and his marijuana conviction trigged the Habitual criminal act. Known as the 3 strikes you're out law.
Which mandates a life sentence to keep career criminals like him off the street ...

He should have been executed for both the drug offense and the habitual offender issues. Now this lawless freak will be back on the streets. I give it less than 30 days before he’s arrested again.

rich rappers send their kids to private schools. their lyrics send black people's kids to jail, or worse!

The details are important. If a state has a "three-strikes and you're out" law and you are convicted of crimes twice, you are absolutely stupid to just commit another crime. Such behavior shows that you don't give a damn about the laws and will most likely never stop committing crimes. We have too many criminals as it is.
