The British fought the Nazis for two long years before Americans got involved and just as in WW1 the motive was never moral but because of Pearl Harbor.

The British repelled a Nazi air invasion eighteen months before the US entered the war and the US only entered the war because they needed help against the Japanese Empire and the British Empire had colonies and troops all over the far east at the time whereas the US had precious little assets.

The US was rather supportive of the Third Reich at the outbreak of WW2 and there were even Nazi rallies in Madison Square Garden.

WW1 is a similar story few Americans wanted to get involved but the US did so anyway for geopolitical reasons just before that war ended.
