DENVER — Denver will stop using its automatic license plate reader cameras after every city council member voted against a contract extension with Flock.
They voiced concerns about data security and potential immigration enforcement access. Flock camera data is accessible to more than 80 law enforcement agencies, some of which have committed to cooperating with U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
While they noted the cameras did contribute to a 40% drop in car thefts, they also recognized the community is worried about privacy and security concerns.
"We acknowledge that today’s environment is much different than when the pilot began in early 2024, and there are new community concerns surrounding this technology," the mayor's office said in a statement.
Evidently protecting illegals is more important than solving crimes and recovering stolen property.
Now if they said they were going to remove them to protect all citizens from an an ever overreaching .gov I'd be all for it.
If anyone is curious if they have a Flock camera watching them.
