The Mexican illegal immigration thing I do not think the Dems get at all, any nation needs to control it's borders and decide who can and cannot come in based on the national interest.

That is what all insurance is.

All insurance is a payment into a collective which spreads the risk, the collective says you make these payments and we will cover you with the payments all others made should you require health care, even cover you beyond what you payed in. Even private insurance covers the individual by spreading individual risk to the collective.

Universal health insurance (not state control of delivery) is that same principal only because the risk pool is universal the cost to both you and the collective is lower.

Right wingers don't care about the laws, they only prefer to be hypocrites regarding the less fortunate. There is no express Immigration clause in our federal Constitution and we should have no illegal problem or illegal underclass. The national interest is faithful execution of our supreme law of the land. We have a Commerce Clause and a central bank; yet, the right wing prefers to eschew capitalism at every opportunity while alleging they are not really like that in socialism threads.

All nation states attempt to control borders and history is replete with warnings with what happens when a state or empire loses the ability to do so.

Yes. To a point, up through high school. I see it the same as wanting your neighbor to pay for a fire department to save your family and house if the need arrives.

For children in regards to health and education I favor a government that provides them the best chance of success in life regardless of their family's financial condition. Seems to me it follows naturally that when we invest in our youth it is more likely they'll become productive citizens and less a drain on society.

I think the sentiment, "All men are created equal", is noble, moral, and just and what makes America great. If we want it to work we must ensure that every child has the opportunity to receive a decent education and have health care, enough to eat, and a place to live. We can't just assume every parent is capable of provide these basic necessities. If every child is able to achieve their best they will contribute to society rather than be a burden on it.

Adults are another matter. We already provide healthcare to all, just walk into a hospital and they will treat you, regardless of your ability to pay (a very poor and yet expensive way to provide healthcare). It makes sense to me that, until we are willing to change that, everyone should be required to have health insurance. Everyone.
