Her announcement came moments after House Republicans blocked a Democratic bid to increase the payments from the $600 per individual as passed in the stimulus bill earlier this week to the $2,000 amount.

“On Monday, I will bring the House back to session where we will hold a recorded vote on our stand-alone bill to increase economic impact payments to $2,000. To vote against this bill is to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny them the relief they need,” Pelosi said in a statement Thursday morning.

While rubbing Mitch's nose in anything is always fun I don't believe that is the Democrats prime motivation. They've always wanted more stimulus and it's been Republicans holding it up. Harris herself sponsored a bill in the senate for $2k payments back in May and Mitch never brought the bill up for a vote.

Now, Trump comes along after the Whitehouse and Republicans in Congress hammered out what they want and it was finally voted through Congress and Trump swings back with a veto threat. This is Trump trying to screw over McConnell however the only way he could is if this effected the elections in Georgia which I kind of doubt it will.

I'm curious to see what McConnell does. I think he is going to ignore anything from the house that even looks in a curious direction at more stimulus checks which would mean he would be defying Trump. Has Trump lost the Republican party? Did the Republicans finally split from Trump over putting money in the hands of Americans? Very bad timing on their part. The positive in all this is it's happening (sans Georgia) after the election and all the little rubes will forget about who denied them their money.

The GOP with or w/out Trump is a disgrace of cowardness.

Let's see if it actually happens. If she can get it through, then the pressure would be on Mitch. I know Trump would sign it in a heartbeat.

This is something the President asked for in the summer. He said he'd sign a stand alone bill for stimulus checks to the citizens only. She never came up with such a bill.
