He carried them, when deployed to operation enduring freedom-(the Afghan War and war on terror), for 8 months, headquartered in Italy....He did NOT claim he used them in/during war, he carried them to his deployment overseas.

The administrative demotion for retirement benefit purpose, was just that....administrative....He was promoted to the rank, served and did duties of the higher rank and grade, but had not completed all of the courses required before he resigned, so he could not collect that higher retirement amount, so an administrative demotion for retirement was performed. It was an honorable discharge, and NOT a demotion for malfeasance or dishonor ability of any kind.

He and every soldier or military deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom, were deployed in war whether on the battlefield, or air conditioned tent, etc etc.
