I've been thinking lately that the government shut down may wind up being democrat's last stand. They are determined to stand up to Trump in order to turn the party's fortunes around. Democrats currently only have a 34% approval rating, which is actually 10 points lower than Trump's. The shutdown has gone on for over two weeks now and most polls show that Americans blame both parties fairly equally. If democrats cave to Trump or lose the shutdown fight then the democrats best shot at redemption has gone down the crapper for good. In other words, it will be their last stand, ala General Custer. With the polls on the subject being close to 50/50 it gives Republicans the courage to not cave so the best democrats can do is a stalemate, which is not a win and they can go merrily on with their 34% approval rating and, if they finally wind up caving, then they join the likes of Custer in American history.
