The reason why you had such a flood of immigrants to be deported under Clinton and Bush was because NAFTA devastated the Mexican Agricultural economy. Farmers of traditional Mexican White Corn had to compete in the market against American Yellow Corn- Genetically engineered, government subsidized, and cheap as hell to the point they are making up stuff to do with it.

In the Obama years, that stabilized in that new manufacturing jobs shifted to Mexico and Mexicans could find those factory jobs that were being imported from America.

In the Trump years, we have immigrants coming from just about everywhere else in the world, but mostly places America has fucked up.

The biggest thing Trump could do is to end the economic war that we are inflicting on Venezuela for the last 20 years.

1. I don't care if we deport them 100x. If they keep coming they must have bad intentions, either gang/drug related, or sponsored by an adversary.

2. There always were economic and political issues in other countries, not our problem. We may need to change the "asylum law" to say that the US is "closed" unless you enter legally. No more showing up and claiming asylum.

3. We forced Mexico to take their folks back (remain in Mexico) by threatening massive tariffs. It worked. We can threaten foreign aid, or sanctions, or whatever it takes.

But they are hiring MILLIONS.

From the sweatshop to the farmer, to the rich yuppie who can't be bothered to raise their own kids, to the dipshits who hire a truckload of day-laborers outside the Home Depot because that DIY project turned out to be harder than it looked on TV.

They know if they get here, they can find jobs.

I guess if Trump wrecks the economy again like he did in 2020, that will discourage them.
