All of the Senate Republicans vote NO on debating the Democrat's surreptitiously-named "voting rights" bill. The Democrats fail to get a single GOP rebel to advance their bill, which is being slammed as the 'biggest power grab in American history,"

Good!

Democrats failed to get the For The People Act through a Senate test vote on Tuesday after every single Republican voted against the bill that has been called a 'power grab' and a bid to orchestrate the 'federal takeover of elections'.

All 50 Democrats voted in favor, including key swings Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. And all 50 Republicans voted against beginning debate on a revised 'For the People Act."

Democrats gotta Democrat like Crips gotta Crip...

The Dems will us this as a campaign issue.
They will be saying that the Republicans are racist and against Voting Rights.
Democrats are SO big on voting rights that they support the right of your pet hamster to cast a ballot!

For a Democrat.

You thought Skippy was running on that giant wheel in Hamster Heaven?

He is, but that don't mean he can't vote (Democrat)!

If you don't vote Democrat, you ain't a dead hamster!

Of course they did.

Republicans aren't for the people.

Also, you shouldn't use big words like "surreptitiously" unless you understand what they mean. Makes you look silly.

True but they would do that anyways. We all turn into racists every other November. It's kinda like a werewolf transition. Then the day after the elections we're good for another 2 years. Kinda like how we find all the grandma's at the bottom of the cliffs every couple years.

this bill isn't about saving Democracy, it's about saving Democrats...it's a big attempted power grab and nothing more

Unless we get rid of the filibuster we effectively HAVE no Congress. Nothing can pass the Senate other than reconciliation bills and there are strict rules (that McConnell will ignore when convenient) as to what can be passed under reconciliation.
The filibuster is not in the Constitution. It was a tactic that became a "thing" in trying to uphold slavery and later Jim Crow.

It allows the MINORITY party to block any bill by claiming that more debate is needed. Oddly no debate actually DOES take place. They simply move on to other business (generally mor obstruction). It is a means to prevent a vote.

The make up of the electorate means that it is highly doubtful that either party will have the 60 votes needed to break the filibuster and allow a vote on any legislation in our lifetime.

The Founders intended our Republic to be one in which the majority rules. Yes the other side should be heard. That however does not mean that the minority party should be able to block everything.

The filibuster needs to be gone.

It's worse because they weren't even voting on the bill itself, they voted against debating the bill. Manchin claims he can bring republicans to the table to vote for a compromise but can't even get a single one to even agree to just discussing it.

This is why the filibuster is problematic. A party has to win 60 seats in the Senate to move legislation forward. There is something wrong when 39 holds more power than 51…
