"It's an invasion of privacy for private employers to insist on looking at people's private Facebook pages as a condition of employment or consideration in an application process," said Catherine Crump, an American Civil Liberties Union attorney, on the ACLU's website. "People are entitled to their private lives."

"This practice undermines the privacy expectations and the security of both the user and the user's friends. It also potentially exposes the employer who seeks this access to unanticipated legal liability."

Republicans don't care if there is a "corporate" invasion of privacy. If the invasion of privacy is by their "corporate masters", then it's OK.

Republicans are working to make their corporate masters the government. What happens when corporations become the government? Will Republicans suddenly defend government?

Nobody should think something like this is ok....saying that this is ok with the republicans is a completely stupid statement!

Considering rdeano is stupid, makes sense his statements are stupid.

It's unbelievable that there are so many here on this board that agree with everything he says....lots of stupid people out there!

deanie....is there anything you like about Republicans?

I'm on the other side, but bet I can find something I like about President Obama....

Let's try!

OK...I'll start. I really like when he comes down off Air Force One, he jogs down with his little elbows bent....and looks like a Tyrannosaurus rex!

Now, you....

Asking for your Facebook password is like asking to come into your house and read your mail before deciding to hire you.

Completely bogus. A no-brainer illegal practice, I should think.

Republicans call me names, but they agree with what I say because I just repeat what their leaders have said.

Education is for snobs.

Evolution is a lie.

Science is a faith.

Climate change is a conspiracy.

Corporations should pay zero taxes or less because they are the "job creators".

Building American infrastructure is a waste of money.

Scientists are lazy and sit on their degrees while raking in government money.

See? It's easy. You try it.

Can you name even one Republican who defended this? Are you aware that government agencies are among the corporations that are asking for passwords?

Maybe we should, I don't know, see what's actually in the bill before blindly supporting it. I know that's a radical concept for alot of people around here. But I've found it's usually good advice to follow.

The very fact that rdean supports it makes me question even more what's in it. That's how much credibility he has with me.

Is the left just stupid or is it part of the socialist agenda? Only the government can invade your privacy without your consent. You can look for a job that doesn't care about your internet life but if you are dumb enough to stream your life story on the internet and you are looking for a job that pays more than a burger flipper get ready to share your site with your employer.

That's what I was thinking. Regardless of the job, if they start asking for my Facebook password then that sends up all sorts of red flags saying "I don't think I want to work here".

Personally, I don't believe in government protecting people from their own idiocy and ignorance. Like I said on another thread; educate people, don't rule them.

Exactly, a company has to have your consent to run background checks, drug testings, financials etc.

Government really needs to protect citizens from this? Really? lol

Well, corporations are evil. They provide enticing products and services for us and persuade us to give them our money for those products and services. Yeah, they don't force us to, but they are still evil.

So we have people in our society who want to empower the government to forceably take (AKA Rob) other people and use that money to counteract those evil corporations, which btw just happens to provide their elected leaders with lots of money they wouldn't otherwise have.

So yes, to some, we do need to be protected from free trade of goods, services, and information.

Your problem is you jump to conclusions, and think that Fox is giving you all the dope. This story has been around for two years, and that Democrat you are so proud of is a little late trying to make a name. Government agencies were asking for, and getting, passwords for at least that long.

Back in 2010, Robert Collins was returning to his job as a security guard at the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services after taking a leave following his mother’s death. During a reinstatement interview, he was asked for his login and password, purportedly so the agency could check for any gang affiliations. He was stunned by the request but complied.

The only thing you listed they need your consent for is the drug test. That is only because, at this point, it is impossible to get body fluids without your cooperation.

Oh the horror. What would I do if they asked me for my facebook password. Oh, that's right, I'll tell them to go pound sand.

You are an idiot. There is no invasion of privacy there. You can say no. You seem to think that you have some vaunted right to the job in the first place. God forbid you not be considered for the position.

What do you do if you were on the job for 17 years, and three years away from a pension? Sorry, but if I'm not posting on their computers, they have no right to my private communications. Why would an employer have a legitimate need for that? It's akin to being coerced by an employer to putting microphones in your house.
