The credibility bubble the democrap party enjoyed so much has burst. They talk a great game but never deliver. People want results not propaganda, but propaganda is the only thing the democraps are good at. Trump is doing or at least attempting to do most of the important stuff he promised during his campaign. Since the election the democraps have done nothing except stay the course with their "Get Trump!" politics and not offer even one good alternative to Trump's policies. Most people are just sick of how bad the federal government has become and see Trump as their only chance to get something done about it. OTOH, the democraps are still seen as the "status quo big government filled with wasteful spending" party. Typically the midterms favor the democraps, but I think this time will be different. The democraps have nothing to offer and at least some of the republicans do.
