Death penalty discussion

John Slow Horses refuses to discuss the press.

It kind of drives me crazy. I don't see it that much from folks on the right. (I know- the left is spit balling me right now) But on the left, it's so common to flat out ask them a question they don't like about anything they disagree with or point out something that proves them wrong and you'll get liquid gold from a lemon sooner than you will an answer or even a courteous reply.

I'm divided about the death penalty. Although lately I'm beginning to be more for than against with all the horrible killings on the rise now.

I also have never come to a conclusion about it. And that is not based on my Christianity--the Bible endorses it. The problem I have is that I don't trust the govt to get it right. And no one deserves to lose their life wrongly.

I agree and it's basically the main reason why I would oppose it in some cases like bias jury's or false evidence.

The topic is the press.
Not my topic, no.

Robert W., your opinions are not facts.

Copilot

No, an opinion is not a fact.

Here's the difference:

  • Fact: A statement that can be proven true or false through evidence, observation, or reliable sources.
Example: "Water boils at 100°C at sea level."
  • Opinion: A personal belief, feeling, or judgment that is not universally verifiable.
Example: "Chocolate ice cream is the best flavor."
Opinions can be based on facts, but they remain subjective. For example, someone might say, "I think stricter gun laws make communities safer." That’s an opinion, even if it’s supported by data—it reflects a personal or societal value judgment.

Not about that either. It is about the press.

This is a bit different than Democrats readers suppose.
I want to talk about the press and how they handle the death penalty.
So if you join in, please keep it to the press and them discussing the penalty.

I have tracked them from maybe once Karla Faye Tucker was still living. When she got executed, I took notice of what the Press had to say.
Days ago a convict was executed in Florida. This was a serious admitted serial killer. Since reports are easy to find now, you all need to read them to really get what I am talking about.

Once you check him out, also look up pending executions to see others in line. That site also shows past executions. When you see a name, check him out. You will learn fast the press has extreme sympathy for the killers.

The Catholic Church has always opposed the death penalty. What are your thoughts about that?

I think sitting in prison for life is worse than the death penalty.

In fact, there was a period which lasted for some time after the Supreme Court banned executions. Then a guy in Nevada, I think, asked to be executed by firing squad. The case went all the way back up to the Supremes, and his wish was granted, and executions took off again.

So here's the thing which you seem to be attempting to dodge.

There have been countless cases of men on death row being found innocent with the advent of DNA testing. Those men would be dead today.

Because there have been so many exonerations, then the decent, honorable, and just plain common sense thing to do is to put a moratorium on executions until we fix our judicial system with is putting innocent people on death row.

For all we know, innocent men have been executed.

If you have a conscience, you would support a moratorium.

Our justice system is broken.

In the case of a man shooting someone on Fifth Avenue with hundreds of witnesses and dozens of video captures, sure, execute him.

But his supporters would suddenly find themselves screaming against the death penalty.

A lot of people, left and right, don't like execution, yes.

Ashlii Babbitt would not follow instructions in a terrible situation. The $5m settlement is a Trump play to the right.
Executed for not following instructions? The Capital Cop can still be indicted for manslaughter.

Can we get back to the press!!!! As to the Catholics I am not one and really don't wish to speak of them since I am very ignorant about them.

You are confused. Ashli Babbitt was pals with the capitol police and they saw her and they all walked away but the killer cop that murdered her.

Yesterday two confessed killers were executed in Indiana and Texas.
This topic is not about any of that. It is how the press deals with executions.
