Death and Dying

I want to be able to write an advanced directive asking my family to withold fluids and food when I'm terminal and no longer conscious due to dementia, coma or vegetative state.

I'm having a discussion about when it's appropriate to allow a terminally ill person to die naturally. Skye I think you've decided to be hostile about it. This is not a discussion on the topic of suicide.

ok

so

if its a discussion of die naturally ....

sure

cool

Yes, it's not about suicide or euthanasia.

No. It's up to me and my family members, not you. That's why an advanced directive is necessary. Some well meaning doof will prolong life and not allow someone a natural dying process.

do what you like

what do i care

No forced food or fluids against a patient's will when they are terminal.

Quality of life is important, not just longevity itself.

If you're very young, you may not be thinking this way.

you can kill yourself before your time

nobody is stopping you...you have free will

but I would not do it .......

because you might end up.....worst than all the misery you thought you left behind

After experiencing my mother's battle with Alzheimer for over 15 years, I can attest to the quality of life being important. She had a phase where she knew something was wrong but didn't know what. We didn't tell her and she cried. Then the last phase where she could no longer talk, walk and was in a vegetative state, a person visiting would just sit there, hold her hand and remember the days when he had her dignity.

I understand

so then you killed her?did she died by herself? what happened

The people who take their lives are usually in such a dark, dark place that normal solutions are unlikely to be accessed without help. They cannot think of ways out of their psychological pain.

No, at the end, the doctor wanted to know if my mother had made a DNR and she had. I had to tell him when to pull her food and water.

yep

I'd certainly want "right to life" kooks far away from me and my loved ones when it's our time to die.

Jackson did not "kill" her mother. She allowed her mother to die naturally.

why are you the defense lawyer for Jackson?

I agree with him

you are being an obnoxious brat to me ok?

do not quote me any more

So, do you think I killed her? In some respects, I did by removing tubes. However this was expressed by her vocally when she was very well and then documented by an attorney and witness.

After experiencing this with my mother, I, too wish the same ending if I should be so unfortunate to be plagued by the same disease. But I do not wish for my son to experience the heartache and guilt that I did,
