Daniel Penny acquitted!

To me, it means there was probably 1 holdout to convict on the top charge, the rest were also going to vote not guilty on the lesser charge, and the holdout decided it wasn't worth it to continue on.

The man stood up and protected people. Putting him on trial was ludicrous

Neely's family obviously didn't give a single fuck about him until they found out they could get a payday from his death.

I'm not going to pour salt in their wounds at this point, but Penny is going to need more lawyers, and civil ones now. I'm sure there are people ready to help him with that.

I don't know this story very well though my initial instincts were that he should have suspected there is a line he is crossing after choking a man so hard. Was the man armed? That of courses changes everything. A person has to understand the consequences of such an act as applying a naked rear choke, this is where it gets murky for me.

What should have happened is that a dozen New York citizens should have helped him out and pinned the man down and advising him to not focus so much on the choke, the man apparently had mental issues. The reason people didn't help out is they didn't want to get hurt and/or fact the same legal issues this guy did.

He was judged and only he and G-d knows what was in his heart. I would hope it was an accident as he was not comfortable taking any chances and so he choked harder than he needed. Knowing ones strength is important, the neck is extremely vulnerable,

Man what a difficult situation to be in and it really places the courts in a tough spot because we must not discourage people from helping others. We also cannot encourage the death of people, accidental or not, if they didn't post a threat to life.

Good point, where were other citizens?
