Curious about your thoughts on Petraeus considered as Secretary of State?

Trump is just seeing how many libtards he can bring to tears...quivering on their knees...horrified that experienced leaders will know how and where to confront our enemies. They have grown too accustomed to weak kneed morons.

This is not to mention that the person he shared this information with was also in the military, and had security clearance herself, just not the type of clearance to see that information.
Agreed.

Additionally, he was honest enough to own up to his mistake and take his punishment, unlike someone else who shared classified information and denied doing anything wrong. I think General Petraeus will be a good SoS.

"Petraeus resigned as CIA direct in November 2012, was convicted of a misdemeanor in 2015, and is currently on probation for sharing classified information with his biographer and mistress, former Army intelligence officer Paula Broadwell."
Y'all are kidding right?

Are you saying he did not own up to it?

Silly far left drone!
No im not saying that. I'm saying Patraeus showed intent by choosing to disclose classified info to somebody who did not have the clearance. Clinton showed carelessness but no intent

Do you think he will be able to get his sex / sending classified information scandal behind him, or does he not have a chance..?

He's smart, talented and qualified but we have a country full of people who could do the job without his baggage. He's an example of the double standard of justice in this government. Had he been a company grade officer, he'd have been nailed to the barn door. Although not guilty of the number of crimes Hillary committed, he skated out of penalties lower ranking individuals would have been unable to avoid. Choosing him is buying into the double standard. It would be an unforced error on Trump's part.

If Hilary can run for president for having a unsecured server with state secrets that has been hacked, why not?
I'd think that those who said that Hillary was unfit to serve because of her email issues would have to hold Patraeus to the same standards... otherwise it's straight partisan hypocrisy

No it is not, it is not even in the same realm..

Only a far left drone would seem them as the same!

Petraeus is a brilliant talented leader who would be the most qualified for the job and he is very impressive when testifying before Congress so I think he would be easily confirmed. He did have an affair while married, but America just elected a president who has had three wives and cheated on at least one of them, so I don't think this will stand in his way.

He didn't send classified information, he confided classified information to some one he had reason to trust and while this is a crime, the question is, does this single instance of poor judgement mean he can't be trusted in the future?
FYI-trump cheated on ALL of his wives, including Melania.

You are wrong, he did give his mistress and book writer CLASSIFIED TOP SECRET information in paperwork and files, including special Military classified codes, and when investigated by the FBI he lied about it and tried to hide it but the FBI had info that SHOWED he knew he was breaking the law by handing her that top secret information...

And mistresses are KNOWN to be the common spy used by foreign nations, he should NOT have trusted any mistress.... it was not simply poor judgement due to him thinking thru his one eyed trouser worm, or heart.

other than that, I agree...Petreaus is very knowledgeable and qualified if it weren't for his intentional and knowing breach...I'm sure he's learned a lesson...but............ I dunno?

Because the FBI deemed the case unprosecutable. And let's be honest, she lost the election because of it

A Petreaus senate confirmation would be a circus, Dem's have zero problem with double standards and hypocrisy. Unless Petreaus is by far 'the' best candidate I say Trump should avoid this side show, bring him in as an advisor who does not require senate confirmation. Basically don't give Dem's any gifts.

This is likely the same reason Chris Christie was jettisoned. And as much as it pains me to say it, why boring back stabber Romney is being considered, he's low drama and has been vetted.
I really don't think there would be any problem getting Petraeus confirmed. There would be a lot nonsense from some of the Democrats, but in the end, he'd get the job.

The GOP would prevail, but time is of the essence. Dem's would likely try to drag out the process and the MSM will be drooling to make a big hoopla about the whole thing. Its already crystal clear that the left wing of the Dem party and the MSM are rooting for Trump to fail.

Trump has a very difficult road ahead I don't envy him. He has guts taking on this job considering the opposition from some Dem's and the MSM. He did telegraph his strategy the other day though, its clear he is going after moderate Dem's hoping to forge a relationship with them. I don't know if he will be successful in getting them to break with Pelosi and the Dem's libs who are in charge. TBD

Obama had to deal with enourmous bullheaded opposition for the past 8 years (an embarrassment that lead to outright gridlock) I know many Dems want to repay the favor, but I hope not. The only way to progress is to work together. My hope is that enough Dems bite the bullet and give their best effort to work with Trump

Stop with the Excuses and campaign rhetoric.... it is what it is, get off the conspiracy train. The GOP blew this thing way out of proportion to win an election and it worked.

There is a reason why Trump went from "lock her up" to "owing her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country"

There was plenty of intent, especially from someone that has been in politics for 30+ years!

The intent was that she was going to do whatever she wanted and the rules be damned.

But only a far left drone would believe their was no intent!

You are letting your imagination run away with you. Paula Brodwell was an intelligence officer in the Army Reserves at the time, major I believe. If she had been on active duty at the time, there would have been no problem giving her the clearance to see this information, but since she was not on active duty and there was no military necessity to read her in, confiding in her was an infraction of the rules but not a security risk.

There is no comparison between Petraeus' infraction of the rules and Clinton's reckless and irresponsible disregard for security.

here is what Patreus did vs Hillary per Comey/FBI sworn testimony.

Comey’s initial testimony

Petraeus pled guilty in 2015 to a misdemeanor charge of mishandling confidential materials. He was fined $100,000 and given two years probation. He had given his mistress, Paula Broadwell, access to eight notebooks with top-secret and code information. She had made copies of over 300 documents marked "secret."

In addition, Petraeus lied to FBI agents investigating the case.

In Clinton's case, the FBI found 110 emails with classified information on her server, eight of which were designated top secret. Comey, in a July 5 news conference, said there was no evidence of Clinton or her staff intending to violate the law. But he also said Clinton should have known that her handling of the emails was inappropriate, and that her behavior was "extremely reckless" because outsiders could hack her server.

The FBI director was asked about the Clinton-Petraeus comparison during his July 7 appearance before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"Do you agree with the claim that General Petraeus, and I quote, 'Got in trouble for far less,' end of quote? Do you agree with that statement?" asked Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-MD.

"No, it's the reverse," the FBI director said.

Comey cited the Petraeus case as one that "illustrates perfectly the kind of cases the Department of Justice is willing to prosecute. Even there, they prosecuted him for a misdemeanor.

"In that case, you had vast quantities of highly classified information, including special sensitive compartmented information. That's the reference to code words. (A) vast quantity of it, not only shared with someone without authority to have it, but we found it in a search warrant hidden under the insulation in his attic, and then he lied to us about it during the investigation," Comey said. (Later in the hearing, Comey said his staff had corrected him and the notebooks were found in Petraeus' desk, not his attic.)

"So you have obstruction of justice, you have intentional misconduct and a vast quantity of information," Comey said. "He admitted he knew that was the wrong thing to do. That is a perfect illustration of the kind of cases that get prosecuted. In my mind, it illustrates importantly the distinction to this (Clinton) case."

"And General Petraeus did not admit to these facts when the FBI investigators first interviewed him, did he?" Cummings asked.

"No," Comey said, "he lied about it."

Comey's subsequent testimony

Eighty three days later, Comey was called before the House Judiciary Committee where Republicans tried to get him to change his mind about prosecuting Clinton, and Blake Farenthold, R-Tex., brought up the matter again.

Farenthold: "How do you respond to people who are saying that this is not how (the) average American would be treated. This is only how Hillary Clinton would be treated?"

Comey: "When people tell you that others have been treated differently, demand from a trustworthy source the details of those cases because — I'm a very aggressive investigator, I was a very aggressive prosecutor — I have gone back through 40 years of cases, and I'm telling you under oath that to prosecute on these facts would be a double standard, because Jane and Joe Smith would not be prosecuted on these facts."

Comey said that, at the FBI, if an agent uses an unclassified email system to do business and, while on that system, talks about classified topics "you will be in big trouble with the FBI. I'm highly confident of that. I'm also confident, in fact certain, you would not be prosecuted. That's what folks tend to lump together. So I care deeply about what people think about the justice system and that it not have two standards. It does not, and this demonstrates it."

Steven Aftergood, senior research analyst at the Federation of American Scientists and an expert on national security secrecy, said, "FBI Director Comey's conclusions have unique weight because he was in a position to investigate and assess both cases in depth. The rest of us (including Trump) have to rely on what has been publicly reported or speculated upon. To me, Comey's conclusion is the end of the matter."

Nice attempt at spin. What did I lie about?
Patraeus intentionally gave classified info to his mistress who did not have clearance. It was illegal. He was convicted. It was not disputed. These are facts.

Clinton carelessly mishandled classified information by using a private email server instead of the state departments servers. The FBI investigated for months. They concluded that it was careless but they did not see enough cause to prosecute. Facts

I provided a link That provides many quotes from the director of the FBI Commenting under oath and in detail about the Patraeus case vs the Clinton case.
