I was self-employed for thirty-five years in construction and managed to raise four kids in a business that can be destroyed on a Black Monday.

Well I'm sure you can understand why young people today would hear that and find it undesirable. Sounds scary to me. Were you ever out of work?

I'm in sales. Unless you find a great company like I did 10 years ago, being in sales sucks. There are ups, but then there are always inevitably downs. Otherwise, why would you ever leave? And on average people work 5 years at a company. Also consider with sales, when you start a new job you usually start at the bottom and have to build your business. And there is no guarantee you're going to make it. I worked for a company that hired 10 knowing 9 wouldn't make it. They use them up for 2 to 8 months and in the end, usually 1 or 2 are left. And if you're one of the 9 you have to explain to the next company why you were let go. It's TOUGH! Unless you find a good company. I was 44 when I found this job that I've been with 10 years and I expect to work here till I retire. But at 44 I didn't want to have kids. I wanted to make up for the Bush 2000's where I didn't save dick.

The cultural shift started on Reagan's watch. Actually the corporations started class warfare in the late 70's. That helped cost Carter his job. And Reaganomics got started. Reagan and Bush came up with NAFTA. Reagan stopped going after illegal employers. Tax breaks to the rich. Breaking unions. Sending those good paying jobs to China and Mexico. Buying from Walmart and Jobs Americans won't do. That's all Republicans.

When you are good with your hands, you'll survive. I'm not.

In the 2000's I wanted to get out of sales so bad. But nothing I could do would pay as much so I was stuck on finding ANOTHER sales job even though I was burned out. Luckily I found the job I have now.

Some guys at my company were let go by the President who was recently let go. They contacted the owner and now they are back. They realized just because they were successful where I work, did not mean they were going to be successful at the next company they go to, or the next, or the next. We aren't good with our hands.

I even applied to be a trucker. I heard they make $80K a year. I could not get anyone to respond when I applied for the job. I have a clean driving record. If they need drivers so bad, why wouldn't they hire me and pay for me to get my CCL? I have to go get a truckers license first? Such bullshit. They should hire me and pay for me to get my big trucker license.

I applied to be a high low driver in a factory. That would be easy and fun. They never called me back. Why not? Did my resume say over qualified? Who cares? I'm trying to get out of sales. I'm willing to start at the bottom. In 1 month I'll be running the joint.
