Theoretically, that's possible. But I think that it is far more likely to hurt Cruz. Not because of people being convinced by the bullshit. Because it's put a dent in Cruz's emotional armor. He's trying to hide it, but Cruz is hovering about half a heartbeat away from having an on-air meltdown when this subject is discussed. He's pissed, and he's starting not to care about whether anyone sees it come out. I don't blame him for being pissed. But he has to check his emotions, and quick.

Oh, don't even bother. Take a look at the actual statement. They "confirmed" that they are "accurate." What is that even supposed to mean? It's nothing but a clever word trick. In essence, they have confirmed that they are actual people, and that they are in fact the people who were intended to be named.

But the word trickery is designed to create a blatantly false impression that the claim of the story is confirmed as being true, without actually making that statement. So later on, when it's demonstrated to be absolute bullshit and they get accused of lying they can say "Oh, we never said that the story was true. We merely confirmed that the identities were accurate."
