I don't see it that way. Look at it like this... He didn't die a slow painful, agonizing death due to his handicap. Which is what likely would have happened to him in the end. If he didn't turn on people first. He died an honorable, death.

Raised thousands of dollars for what care? Apparently the wild bear was doing just fine living in the wild if it took the guy three years to get it. The bear had figured out how to hunt, kill, and eat in spite of its previous injury.
Think it wouldn't have killed a human if it was hungry and came upon one?

He was stalking it for three years, but this was the first year in 50 years the state of New Jersey opened things up for Bear hunting. The bear was not able to move like a normal bear or run at a normal bear speed. You can't tell me by watching the videos that this bear wasn't an easy target for a hunter.
