Looks like his little joke was too much for his supervisors even in a state as red and Idaho. I guess the officer was too dumb to know his own force would not stand behind him and his little show, while in uniform in the government supplied police car. Go figure.

Which is that deadly forces is NOT automatically justified because someone else is using deadly force like a knife.
For example, while a knife is deadly force, it is not nearly as likely to kill as a gun, so then escalating up to shooting someone 10 times because they have a knife, most definitely is NOT justified.
In fact, a women is perfectly justified in using a knife in defense, even though it is deadly force.
Before shooting someone can be justified, you have to know who started it, why there is a conflict, whether or not there is is criminal deadly intent, etc. And there almost most never is any justification for multiple shots. If one does not work, another may be justifiable, but only after the first shot is evaluated. And hollow point ammunition is always just plain illegal. It does not incapacitate any better, but greatly reduces survival rate, for absolutely no reason.
It is illegal in war, and that should be good enough for police to understand why it is illegal in peace.
