Controlling what the people know one way or the other

Google and many other internet search engines are forming a conglomerate to filter out "un-truthful" information for web users. that is a wonderful idea but I wonder that if this is such a wonderful idea why doesn't Google develop it for itself and use it for itself. It would give it's search engine an advantage over competitors yet it wants to share. That is kind of strange and quite unbelievable considering that businesses rarely ever share anything with each other.

They're filtering out whatever is disadvantageous to THEM.
