All morning long today – and yesterday – I keep coming up on articles about new stuff being unveiled at the show. To be perfectly honest, not a single one interests me – except the new Samsung refrigerator with a price tag of $5k that shows recipes on a screen in the door and reminds you what's inside when the door's closed.
They tout how much money it brings into the Vegas economy. Well, it sure ain't in the casinos or the people who work for tips! They are about the most tight-fisted bunch after the annual clothing show crowd. They don't gamble and I remember getting a whopping 50¢ tip for a $5 ride where they could've walked!
So, surely some of you must have something from the show that you like.

It must've been the very early 80s when I first attended COMDEX as it was called before it became CES. Even then it was a big show that took up most of the Las Vegas Convention Center. I got it because I was the editor for the local Apple newsletter and itr didn't take an arm and a leg to get it. We got lots of goodies and some of the stuff they showed was truly crude by today's standard. The biggest deal of the show was this:
People in the publishing business were going nuts over it, not just for the mouse interface but the awesome graphic capabilities. Our newsletter was picked up across the nation, a real sense of personal pride for me. Oh how time has moved on.
