Conservatives give more to charity than liberals, even though liberals generally earn more

This is the way it's always been. The left wants the government to force people to give through taxes.

And the way it should be. Governments are instantiations of our national morality and my moral values say that

• children should not suffer because of the sins of their parent; all children deserve decent food, housing, education, and health care.
• getting charity should not depend on your geography, religion, race, gender, etc.
• we come together as a nation to help people in times of emergency, natural disaster, etc.

Our government has gotten so involved in providing a safety net because there were glaring holes that needed fixing.

Republican donations to "charity" are generally donations made to their churches, not charitable causes. Mormans [sic] tithe 10% of their income to the Church which is why the Mormon Church as a billion dollars in trust, none of which is being used to help the poor.

That you are completely ignorant about the charitable activities of the Mormon church does not, in any way, diminish their existence or function. Our charitable enterprises are rivalled only by those of the Catholics.

Your side, on the other hand, must love poor people; given all the policies and programs you have to make people poor, and keep them poor and dependent.

No...they also donate to private charities as well as donate their time......the lie that they just donate to their churches is a just that, a lie......democrats use charities to steal...just ask the clintons and the obamas....

Because "vote for us, we donate a lot of money to churches, but call SS and Medicaid communism" is not particularly convincing.

It seems that in lieu of being willing to give any of what is rightfully their own to give, in support of causes that they deem worthy, LIbErals think that they can claim charity on the basis of supporting government-based theft from others, to support such causes.

Remember Obama's plan to end a bunch of charitable tax deductions?
