Congress Is Doing A Great Job

There can be no doubt Congress is doing a great job, and has been for many years. Passing certain legislation and guaranteeing certain legislation dies in committee. But all the while accomplishing little to nothing of benefit to average Americans. However, at the same time these diligent lawmakers manage to pass bill after bill that help put countless billions of federal dollars into the pockets of corporate officers and billionaire political donors.

Publicly, Congress is consistently gridlocked, but behind closed doors, bi-partisan agreement is endless.

Perhaps voters realize this, perhaps not. Perhaps voters realize this but prefer not to admit it to themselves. But one thing is certain, voters from both parties look at congressional gridlock and see it as their representatives and senators stopping the “bad guys”. So, they must reelect their noble heroes who constantly fight to protect the nation from those evil and divisive “bad guys”.

On Friday, “bad guy” Democrats Nancy Pelosi and chief deputy whip Rep. Dan Kildee stopped the “bad guy” Republicans’ short-term extension of juiced-up unemployment benefits. Lawmakers plan to iron out details of a broader coronavirus relief package later. “We cannot piecemeal this,” Pelosi said on Thursday. “It has an integrity. It has a oneness about meeting the needs of the American people, defeating the virus.”

“House Democrats are pushing for a $3 trillion-plus package they passed in May that extends a $600-per-week boost in unemployment benefits through January, among other items.” Where the bulk of this $3 trillion-plus will go is anybody’s guess, just like $2 trillion portion of the $2.2 trillion contained in the first COVID-19 relief package. (Which is exactly why the impeached president trump forbade even a whisper of oversight.)

Senate Republicans claim the cost of their bill to be closer to $1 trillion, so it’s quite unlikely there will be any money left to trickle down to small businesses or the millions of unemployed. To stop the "bad guys" Senate Republicans then left town for the week after failing to unveil any formal plan for the next coronavirus relief package.

So, congressional gridlock prevails. The “bad guys” have once again been stopped. Lawmakers have served their constituents with honor and integrity. Voters on both sides can rest easy once again. Yeah, right.

All this success stopping the “bad guys” adds hundreds-of-billions of dollars to the national debt each year. Voters on both sides might consider rethinking whether reelecting these noble heroes over and over is really the best thing they can do to stop the “bad guys”. It’s easy to see what voters on both sides have been doing for five or six decades sure as he11 ain’t workin'.
