I think that a key to this is that a majority of the country -- and that includes the GOP establishment like McConnell -- had the wrong idea about what a majority of the American Right really is. They led us to believe -- and we bought it -- that they were actually conservatives, that they really were for Conservative Christian values, limited government, fiscal responsibility, all that..In all seriousness, I have to hand it to you: You have completely kicked ass and taken over your party.
It's not my job to understand this, but I sure as hell can see the results. The GOP "civil war" is over, if it ever really existed to begin with.
The final straw for me came from Mitch McConnell -- who has been trying to straddle the fence and failing pretty badly -- yesterday. Just a couple of weeks after condemning Trump on the Senate floor for his responsibility in the Capitol terrorist attacks of January 6, Mitch has now completely capitulated and said he would "absolutely" back Trump in 2024.
One guy owns a political party now. Incredible. And congratulations, I guess.
McConnell says he would 'absolutely' support Trump as 2024 nominee
McConnell this month called Trump's role in the deadly Jan. 6 riot a "disgraceful dereliction of duty."www.nbcnews.com
Moscow Mitch can read the writing on the wall, trump's Nazis ARE the GOP's remaining base. Those many, many years spent encouraging the right-wingers' "ethnic resentments", creating "enemies-of-conservatism" for the right-wingers to fear, convincing the right-wingers that the working poor are "lazy, welfare queens", reassuring the right-wingers that education poses a threat to traditional conservative Christian dogma, reinforcing the right-wingers' hatred for the LGBT community by building them into a danger to their children, etc., etc., etc.
The Republican Party created so many enemies for their right-wing voter base to fear, the right-wing nuts began creating their own, with endless conspiracy theories, secret organizations, even QANON would not exist had it not been for the decade after decade of the GOP's propaganda, pundits, and politicians feeding the right-wing nuts’ paranoia.
Moscow Mitch and every other Republican politician, from the federal level to small city governments relied on the same political tactics that were developed in the 1960s. They brainwashed the gullible and stupid right-wing nuts for so long, no twenty-first century Republican candidate could compete with the a$$hole trump's shameless and ill-mannered disregard of propriety or courtesy in the world of U.S. politics. Which the GOP itself had worked to destroy since Richard Nixon's 1972 reelection campaign.
The January 6th coup attempt by trump and his legion of half-witted trump Nazis is the culmination of the Republican Party's decades long system of dirty politics and propaganda. Propaganda spread and repeated endlessly by pr!cks like the wonderfully late Rush Limbaugh and others like him.
The trump Nazis, led by their wannabe führer and current cult leader are not going to take "NO!" for an answer to their demands for their wannabe führer to be given dictatorial powers, regardless of the 81 million voters that voted to kick their wannabe führer out of the White House.
The tenuous grip the Democrats now have on the congressional majority is being weakened by Democrats like Joseph Manchin collaborating with the congressional Republicans to undermine every effort to help average Americans.
His determination to further destroy the lives of average Americans ravaged by the economic effects of COVID-19, while at the same time lining the pockets of the 0.1% with money borrowed by Congress, will be remembered in 2022. The centrist voters will join with the trump Nazis to elect QANON nuts and other various trump Nazis to Congress.
These fools haven't a clue when it comes to the rule of law or the duties of those elected to govern a nation of more than 330 million citizens. So, there is nothing to prevent them from installing their wannabe führer as permanent dictator. Which, with the help of his enablers, congressional Republican AND Democrat, on January 6th, came closer to becoming a reality than ever before in the history of the United States.
The American people are watching, what could be the final twenty-one or twenty-two months of the United States democracy, before the trump Nazis make a bonfire out of Washington D.C., using the Constitution to light the blaze.
.
But that was never what they were after. They had been spun into such a ball of rage, frustration and paranoia by those who tell them what and how to think, that they wanted someone like Trump -- aggressive, pugilistic, nationalistic, bigoted, authoritarian, autocratic -- as their savior on Earth to whom they're willing to sell their souls. They're at war, blow it all up, and he's their General Patton.
I keep saying it: We've seen this before in world history. I just thought we had learned. We didn't. This appears to be human nature. But this time, they're not going to wake up, as people like this have in the past, because they still have those same voices screaming at them 24/7/365.
