I can't imagine my childhood without all the movies Ivan Reitman directed. I feel like we don't have someone like him now making movies. I didn't realize Adam Sandler doesn't direct all his movies. He has worked with several directors.

Mel Brooks made great movies.

I hate Woody Allen movies. Can't believe anyone thinks he's funny.

Judd Apatow. He's on the Mount Rushmore of Comedy directors.

So Ivan Reitman, Mel Brooks, Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler.

Even though Adam isn't a director, who's come out with more/better comedies than him? This is your chance to replace Adam on my Mount Rushmore.

Of course I'm talking movies. If we are talking TV then Norman Lear is first on Mount Rushmore. Norman Milton Lear (July 27, 1922 – December 5, 2023) was an American screenwriter and producer who produced, wrote, created, or developed over 100 shows.

The 3 stooges were the greatest comedy team of all time. I also loved the tremendous W C Fields
It's weird that 3 guys can't successfully re create the 3 Stooges. I've seen the movies. No thanks.

That's an interesting topic. Comedy Teams. I hated Martin and Lewis. Cheech and Chong were great. Hated the Smothers Brothers. Gene Wilder and Richard Prior were great together. Key and Peele suck if you ask me. Monte Pyton great. Kids in the Hall amazing. The Marx Brothers good.

I remember the Abbott and Costello show as a kid.

Wally Cox had a couple of comedy series, not to mention being the voice of Underdog.

Red Skelton had several funny movies in the 30s, 40s, and a long TV show.

Hope/Crosby movies are still funny.

Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello

The woman behind Underdog used to go on the Howard Stern show. Very weird woman.

Suzanne Muldowney (born August 13, 1952[1]), nicknamed Underdog Lady or simply Underdog, is a performance artist known for her appearances in parades in various cities throughout the year in her elaborate homemade costumes. She often dresses as the cartoon character Underdog. She came to national attention through her appearances on and calls to The Howard Stern Show to discuss and perform her dance interpretation of Underdog. There she was given the nickname "Underdog Lady", though she personally rejects this name and prefers to be referred to as simply "Underdog" when wearing the costume.

Muldowney made several appearances on Howard Stern's radio and television shows throughout the 1990s. A serious performer, she regrets her association with the program because of Stern's lewd jokes, and has called him her "nemesis".[9] In 2006, she appeared as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live![8] to demonstrate a new form of dancing she called "figure jogging".

In 2006, the documentary My Life as an Underdog was released by director Boris Gavrilovic.[8]

Muldowney has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.

Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello
As a child I watched both. I can tell you Abbott and Costello were way better. L&H almost seemed like a cheap knockoff. I think L&H came first right? I remember Laurel and Hardy made me nervous. It was slow. Something creepy about those two. Were the *******?

Laurel and Hardy were better than anything else on at the time that's for sure. Sort of like The Marx Brothers. As a kid they were the best thing on but really more made for adults than for us. These were shows that both adults and kids could watch because the characters were silly.

And Abbott and Costello were good movies but it wasn't like you were LOL or ROFLMAO right?

So I have to disagree with you. These were OK at best shows when we were younger but not as funny as Pineapple Express or Porkies.

Who's the funnier Brit Bob Hope or John Cleese?

We have to agree to disagree

Abbott and Costello were comedy masters. Their timing was impeccable and they played off each other perfectly. Bud Abbott was under appreciated and set up each skit. Their movies and TV have aged well

You have to remember Laurel and Hardy were comedians from almost 100 years ago. While most comedy was slapstick, they had a great rapport. Still funny

I am disappointed with Adam Sandler. I think he just mails it in and no longer knows what is funny

But they never updated or came up with new gags.

they continuously used routines they used in Vaudeville.

That was the great thing about vaudeville. The people didn't see a routine until they saw it in person. Performers could do the same thing for many years and it would always be new to the audience.

Nowadays everyone sees it on TV at the same time, and its a matter of coming up with something else.

Mel Brooks movies dont hold up. I really hate saying that, but its true. Blazing saddles does NOT hold up. There are a few funny moments in it still, but its mostly a string of VERY cheap laughs.

Yeah, i know all about Underdog lady and Howard Stern, and yes, she is weird as ****! I very much dislike her and everything she says and does. Her singing is ******* annoying too. Everything about her sucks.

Pretty much every comedian today is funnier than they are. Old comedy almost never holds up. There are exceptions, but the exceptions dont make the rule.

The same goes for old dramas, old action movies, old anything.

I find they still hold up which is difficult in comedy

Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Spaceballs are comedy classics

While I agree much of the old comedy relied too heavily on slapstick, I am disappointed in most of todays conedians.

They substitute offensive for funny.
An occasional F bomb can be funny but a stream of profanity or discussion of lewd subjects does not make comedy.

Young Frankenstein has a few GREAT scenes, but thats about it. Spaceballs has a FEW good scenes, but even the ones that you thought were good, arent really that good.

I really do love the "SEDA-GIVE?!!" scene.

Slapstick can work. Airplane holds up better than most old comedies. So do the Naked Gun movies.
