Do Americans still smoke like in the good old Marlboro man days?

In Europe people are banned smoking in most places only at home and sometimes designated 'smokers corners' the EU heavily taxes smokers

Come to where the flavor is...

Marlboros are way overpriced these days, as are many other brands. I smoked a pack of the 100mm Marlboro Blacks a day for the last couple years but had to switch to Lucky Strike Gold 100s, instead of paying almost $12 per pack for the Marbs.

The good thing about Marbs though, is that they have a number/letter code stamped on the inside of the hard-pack tops. You can enter the code and get points for free merchandise. I've accumulated a shitload of points, maybe I'll redeem them one of these days.

I have a friend in Philly who quit smoking weed after doing it all this life. I asked him why and he told me he couldn't afford it anymore. He smokes at least 2 packs a day. (one the hard ones stuf the other menthols)

I asked him what would you do if the doctor told you you have quit smoking ciggies or your going to die real soon. He told me get measured for a suit.

i quit smoking 25 years ago after having a pack a day habit. it was the hardest thing i ever had to do... btw - i believe the dude who played the marlboro man died from lung cancer.

I remember back in the '60's Old Gold had points like that. People used to say that if you got a million points that you got a free iron lung.

I knew that joke was going to pop up in this thread. :auiqs.jpg:

One of the biggest changes I’ve seen in the last 50 years.
When I grew up in the 60s, half the people smoked. Any time, anywhere. Bars, restaurants, movie theaters, supermarkets.
When they finished their smoke, they threw it on the ground, stomped it and said…..Somebody pick that up

Now, I rarely see anyone smoking in public

Same ish time frame. Agree on the difficulty. I had to use non nicotine smoking substitutes for nearly a year before I could give that away too.

Vapes may help better with the transition these days.

After all, smoking cigarettes only makes one look like an idiot.

Edit...I have to say what worked for me was the government putting punitive taxes on tobacco.

The Eurine Union

Smoking has a masculine image, which makes it a threat to the ruling classes. The Marlboro Man sent trickles down their legs.
