Most firearm dealers, gun manufacturers and ammunition sellers in Colorado will have to pay a 6.5% excise tax on qualifying sales starting April 1.

That translates to $33 in new taxes on a $500 handgun, or $65 in taxes on a $1,000 rifle; $20 worth of ammunition will cost an extra $1.30. Much of those costs will likely be passed on to consumers.

The tax will also apply to many gun parts and accessories, as well as equipment used to manufacture firearms.

Why does CO hate those of modest means just trying to protect themselves?

Colorado will become one of the first states in the country to impose a tax on the sales of guns and ammunition.

This isn't true. What they are doing is adding an additional tax on top of the tax that has long been on firearms. A tax that applies in most states.

Now could the courts see this as an imposition to obtaining a firearm thereby violating your rights? Maybe.

Excise taxes have been around a long time.
and according to the article in the OP it raises that tax,,

so why are you pushing an untrue argument??

like I said you thrive on fake arguments,,

They should put it on a state referendum. Coloradians are a strange breed.

That's correct.

The article doesn't state it "raises the tax".

maybe if you didnt edit one sentence out of context we might care what you say,,

doing that is whats called pushing a fake argument,,

Colorada is just taking advantage of a large hunting population to raise needed revenue.

"Together, hunting and fishing bring over $3.25 billion to Colorado every year, impacting all 64 counties. Hunting and fishing also support more than 25,000 full-time jobs across the state, from small businesses to manufacturers to the tourism industry."

MD, Colorado, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Washington, and New Mexico are among the states where lawmakers are considering similar bills, a Trace review found. Most are modeled after California’s 11 percent tax on firearm manufacturers and retailers.

California was the first state to enact such an excise tax, but at least three municipalities have also done so: Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, and Cook County, Illinois. Pennsylvania also adds a $3 surcharge on firearm sales to support the state’s background check system.

The federal government has, since 1919, imposed a national excise tax of 10 to 11 percent on the import and production of firearms to support wildlife conservation; the state taxes would be in addition to the federal tax.

Virginia tacks on $2.00 for the background check.
