Alabama and Ole Miss better be on the outside looking in.

Indiana though they lost to OSU should still have a shot and be in the mix

UGA's losses to Alabama and Ole Miss look worse and worse each week.

Penn State looks suspect.

SMU should be in.

It seems a lot harder to select 12 teams than it was to select 4.
Anyone beyond 4 will have warts and undefendable weaknesses.
Right now, it is heavily biased to Big 10 and SEC with the possiblity of three loss teams making it over one loss teams in other conferences

I like the idea of flexible picks. You don't decide how many teams are in at the beginning of the season. You decide at the end. So, for example, if you have only four undefeated teams, then those teams play. If you have 3 undefeated teams, they you play a round robin. This sort of ad hoc way was the way it was done in the early years of many sports.

You can even pick the sites in advance, so cities have time to prepare. It gets the chatter going, which is basically why the NCAA held off so long in implementing more and more expanded playoffs. You get a buzz going, which generates fan interest. People arguing on the internet contributes to it. Like people arguing here. :D:cool:

As for Alabama, an 8-3 record is a respectable record for most teams at this point in the season........but Alabama! The Nick Saban Era is over.

Tide should not be rolling into these playoffs.

That would certainly be interesting, but I don't think a make the rules as you go (for getting into the playoffs) would ever be the approved system.

Rules would be changed to allow Alabama into the playoffs

Would have been hard to keep out some of the undefeated teams like BYU, Army, and Indiana. But that sort of took care of itself when they all recently lost. Have any of those teams even played anyone? I have not kept track so much this year. Some undefeated teams can be real pretenders.

It's not that they lost 3 games it's who they lost them to. Vandy and OU aren't very good teams.

The Alabama-Mississippi Valley game has been a lot better than watching the pro games today, tied a few minutes ago.

byu had a real shot but they have an OC that sucks
this team is loaded with talent

I keep seeing/hearing that if SMU loses to Clemson they are out and Alabama stays in to make room for Clemson. SMU should refuse to take field. If the committee thinks that Alabama is better than SMU why is SMU ranked ahead of them? Teams shouldn't be penalized for having to play an additional game.

Edit adding on

If you swapped schedules and records between Alabama and SMU, SMU wouldnt have a shot at the CFP and everyone would be saying you cant penalize Alabama for losing their Conference Champ game. No one is suggesting Georgia would be out if they lose to Texas.

Indiana has an exceedingly soft schedule. (Army and BYU arent in right now so...)

Georgia should be out of the POs. Their QB is hurt.

Also the refs in that game were atrocious

We may be seeing a decline in the Alabama program

They should start it earlier and finish before the NFL PO's get into full swing. Most games in weeks 16-18 are of little consequence. Teams are out of contention or have things basically wrapped up. Fill that void.

Horrible schedule.

13 days between first round and quarter finals?

I agree they need to not drag it out so long. I think that was a big part of the reason there was less interest in this year’s play Off
