I drink coffee in the mornings because my husband and I enjoy the coffee and it's just easier. But usually brew up a good tea in the afternoon or evenings.

I am happy that currently the medical experts mostly agree that coffee is good for us. Next year who knows what they'll say?
The best was to determine if coffee is "good" for you is to quit drinking it for a while and see how you feel, sleep.

No effect since I only drink coffee up to mid day or so.

Currently most healthcare professionals agree that coffee, at least in reasonable amounts, can:

Boost energy
May lower risk of type 2 diabetes
Could support brain health
May promote weight management
Linked to lower rate of depression
Could protect against some liver disease
Supports heart health
Could increase longevity
Might increase athletic performance (and by default your sex life :)
Studies suggests may lower risk of breast cancer
etc.

Of course too much coffee has its definite downsides so, as in most things, moderation is the key.

I generally have no more than one to three cups a day. I enjoy it and do believe I feel better when I drink it.

It takes a couple weeks for all the caffeine to leave your system. The most notable effect is better sleep.

I have read that after 10 to 12 hours or so, there is no more caffeine in the system. Which means if you do all your coffee drinking in the morning (which is recommended), you'll likely sleep just fine 12 hours later.

I'll go with that theory. :)

Caffeine accumulates in your system. It may leave your blood stream, but some migrates into your tissues. If you quit this caffeine comes out later and into your blood stream, sometimes causing sleeplessness for a night as if you drank five cups just before bed. After that you sleep like a baby.

Perhaps. I don't know all the science that goes into it. But I'll just go with what I read, limit my caffeine intake to the morning and trust that it doesn't interfere with my sleep. The benefits from what I read and what I experience make giving up my coffee something I really don't want to do. :)

II used to have a terrible coffee habit. Now I make a two-cup thermos that I sip on throughout the day. I always have some left to dump out as well. That thermos has saved me a fortune.

It's extremely rare that we ever purchase brewed coffee anywhere. Maybe if we're traveling and/or having breakfast at a restaurant but that's about it. No Starbucks or other presumably 'gourmet' coffees ever any more. Those are always way overpriced and no better than the Folgers or Maxwell House we brew ourselves.

We do brew one pot of coffee in the morning at home, have one or two cups--very rarely three cups--and that's about it.

I have hot chocolate/cocoa when I (rarely) go to Starbucks.
