Interestingly enough, scientists and engineers have started to figure out a way to recycle the rare earth materials in batteries that isn't too bad for the environment. Matter of fact, it's actually looking like it would be more economical than mining. And, many companies are looking into starting their own recycling and recovery of rare earth materials since it looks like it will be a lucrative business.
