Coal Miners Union Urges Manchin To Reconsider Opposition To Bidens Bill

The United Mine Workers of America (UMWA), which represents West Virginia coal miners, urged Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Monday to revisit his opposition to President Biden's Build Back Better plan.

The labor union noted that the bill includes an extension of a fund that provides benefits to coal miners suffering from black lung disease, which expires at the end of the year. The UMWA also touted tax incentives that encourage manufacturers to build facilities in coalfields that would employ thousands of miners who lost their jobs.

“For those and other reasons, we are disappointed that the bill will not pass,” Cecil Roberts, the union’s president, said in a statement. “We urge Senator Manchin to revisit his opposition to this legislation and work with his colleagues to pass something that will help keep coal miners working, and have a meaningful impact on our members, their families, and their communities.”

This isn't over yet.
Yes it is. The bill doesn't just cover Climate stuff. Manchin has many legitimate objections to several other parts of the bill.

Yea...not only does he not give a shit about black lung among his coal miner constituents, he thinks poor folks are all drug addicts that would piss away the Child Tax Credit on drugs

Maybe you could prove where he said poor folks are all drug addicts

Perhaps we don't need any Americans going underground to get the coal. The miners should tell the company to stick it. Pay up.

You mean the workers that have the families that need whats in the bill?

The one 68% say they want?
They wont be getting any of that funding Dimmer, all that goes to the rich you keep whining about....and they are all Dimmers!

Amen! And also...

For 35 million families with 65 million kids that have relied on monthly child tax credit payments, the new year might not be a happy one.

Without the passage of President Joe Biden's $1.75 trillion economic plan, Build Back Better, the monthly payments will expire, and the child tax credit will revert to its much smaller pre-pandemic form. The enhanced payment due families on Dec. 15 may be the last.

Monthly child tax credit payments set to expire at the end of the year

It may be that Manchin wants two things. No reduction in coal use for elec, and no more transfer payments to people who are not retired or employed.

You can bet the rank and file are tired of being sold out by their leaders. If these effing socialists have their way 100% of the coal miners will not have a job or any benefits within 5 years. Roberts is caving to pressure from the new hyper leftists that have taken over the AFL-CIO since Trumpka died. Roberts is a great orator, but he's dumber than a brick. Manchin is trying to save their jobs for at least another decade or so.

Stay strong Senator Manchin, America and the blue-collar workers need you.
