Let’s call this one “‘F***!’ news.”

We’re told CNN flew into a panic on Friday after it accidentally aired a fake National Enquirer cover during Jake Tapper’s broadcast.

Tapper did a segment on his “The Lead” show about Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s claim that Donald Trump tried to blackmail them with a hit piece in the National Enquirer.

Unfortunately, the cover is — literally — fake news.

The cover — which has the headline “Heidi Cruz: Betrayed by Cheating Husband!” and promised details on a “sordid threesome, sleazy love letters and sensational photo proof — has never appeared on the National Enquirer, according to sources at the magazine.

CNN didn’t respond to a request for comment.

The blunder comes just a week after three news staff resigned because CNN had to retract a false story about supposed links between Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci and a Russian investment fund.

I remember Trump and his supporters losing their minds and frothing at the mouth while spreading that story back during the primaries.

CNN broke the "story". It helped Trump a lot.

Thanks CNN!!!
The remarkable CNN exchange that took the Ted Cruz affair rumors from the tabloids into the mainstream
Better Trump than that nutjob Cruz. Remember Trump calling his wife a former call girl? Remember Trump accusing his father of murdering JFK? LOL! And you dumb fucks voted for him

It seems that it may have been created as clickbait.

We’re told the network is taking the matter seriously, and that it has been referred to the networks standards and practices department for review.

Why air a fake cover when there are so many juicy "fake news" actual covers by Trump's favorite rag, the National Enquirer?

Ted Cruz blames Donald Trump and his 'henchmen' for tabloid story - CNNPolitics.com
....The National Enquirer endorsed Trump earlier this month with the headline "Trump Must Be President," a fact Cruz highlighted Friday as he slammed the tabloid and Trump.
"Donald, when he's losing, when he's scared, decides to pedal sleaze and slime," Cruz told reporters Friday.
Cruz added in a Facebook post later Friday that the "smears" are "offensive to Heidi and me, they're offensive to our daughters, and they're offensive to everyone Donald continues to personally attack."
"Donald Trump's consistently disgraceful behavior is beneath the office we are seeking and we are not going to follow," he wrote on Facebook.
Later Friday afternoon, Trump retweeted a Twitter user who said, "#LyingTed blames @realDonaldTrump for so many things I am starting to think he is having a mental health crisis."
The exchange on Friday is the latest salvo in the increasingly personal battle between Cruz and Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump inserted Cruz's wife, Heidi, into the race with a tweet that the Texas senator should "be careful" or he would "spill the beans on your wife." That was a response to a Facebook advertisement targeted to Mormons that shows Trump's wife, Melania, posing nude -- an ad was produced by an anti-Trump super PAC, Make America Awesome, which has no known connection to the Cruz campaign.
Trump then followed that up with a retweet on Wednesday night seemingly digging at Heidi Cruz's physical appearance. Cruz reamed Trump for that tweet Thursday and urged Trump to "leave Heidi the hell alone."
"Most of the things that Donald Trump says have no basis in reality. So we are not worried in the least," Heidi Cruz told reporters earlier this week.

If this was a true story, they would have linked the video.
