Club World Cup

Saw the end of the U.S. vs. Costa Rica game last night, the U.S. won it in overtime in a shootout (whatever they call it when each team gets 5 shots on goal). They played in Minnesota (huge beautiful stadium where the Vikings play) and the stadium looked packed. Soccer is catching on.

It was tied after that and the U.S. won it when Costa Rica missed their first shot of the 2nd round and the U.S., didn't, now they play a semi-final game this Wednesday against someone.

Zidane is one foreign player from the World Cup I remember, the year Germany won it, Zidane played well for France that year but they lost to Germany if I remember correctly

Some great matches now that the "make up the numbers" teams have fallen by the wayside .

Until PSG are beaten I shall assume them to be favourites .

Naturaly I hope that either Chelsea or Manchester City do well, though it is sad that Liverpool are not represented--- arguably with Arsenal our two strongest Premier Division Clubs presently .

The quarterfinal lineup is complete.

I think in the US it comes and goes, people get interested for a little bit, then lose that interest. I think it'll be popular next year for the World Cup, and then three months later people will struggle to tell the difference between dominoes and soccer.

As I suggested earlier,PSG look tremendous favourites to lift the final .
I shall be interested to see how Chelsea try to deal with them .
The scintillating form of PSG so far makes Arsenal's performance against them last season in the Champion's League look better and better by each passing game .
Arsenal could be great competition this coming season given the pedigree of their summer transfer market signings .
On paper , colossal .

All in all it looks as though the Premier League will dominate European Football this coming season with Liverpool , Man City Arsenal and Chelsea being run brilliantly .
This makes it more and more difficult for Newcastle , Aston Villa and Brighton to break their dominance .
