This rule is excessive and a large percentage of threads violate the "clean start" rule. This rule is obviously not uniformly enforced. Why not just get rid of it? It doesn't advance discussion.

Well, you don't advance your argument by calling those that might disagree with you a filthy slimeball Nazi right off the bat.....You gotta ease into it a bit. ;)

Not the point. The clean start rule is unnecessary and counterproductive.
How so?

This place has hyper-partisan trolls who start threads by insulting any who disagree. One particularly obnoxious Welsh poster likes to taunt people in his Opening posts in order to bait them into replying in anger.

This place doesn't need that crap.

If you want to start filthy inflammatory troll threads, there is already a place for that.

Making the main forum like the Taunting Arena, would inevitably decrease revenue from advertisers and decrease site traffic.

You're tilting at windmills n00b.

Anyway, as I said, the rule is sometimes enforced and oftentimes not. So why have the rule?

Simple.

A moderator can slightly edit some threads and titles to comply with it without damaging the thread's context. Other threads and titles have the offending material take up the majority of the thread body and/or title.

It is a fine balance, and we don't always get it correct.

If you have questions about a specific action I or other moderators have taken regarding the clean start rule, send us a PM.

Eliminating that rule would make things easier and better for the moderation team and it would result in less threads being nuked over essentially nothing.

I didn't know there was such a rule. Most of the time I find that if my thread has been deleted, it's [though shalt not talk about it]

It isn't always enforced. Technically, if an OP includes a subjective, derogatory, claim, it is in violation of the rule. The OP is supposed to be "just the facts". Thereafter, one can respond with disparaging remarks.

My suggestion is to make the mod's job easier and this community better. Why are you so negative as to view it as a "complaint"?
This place is like the wild west when compared to most places.....Leave the clean start rule be.

Besides, if you want to get all squirrely you have a vast wasteland to go to right here.

To me the clean start rule is akin to a rule that says one must be sure to cross all their "t's" and dot all their "i's". The OP is supposed to be "clean" but the following post from the opening poster can be filled with subjective, critical, statements. What's the point? How does that help the moderators and how does it benefit this community?

I'm only trying to help and I'll leave it at that.

I have already told you this. It seems you just don't like the answer.

If you can't tell the difference between "subjective and critical," content, and "derogatory and trolling" content? You probably have no business starting threads in the first place.
