Trump is right, we needed more statesmen back then who were willing to negotiate in order to prevent war from breaking out. So many lives lost for nothing. Lincoln should be remembered for that.

---He added Lincoln could have negotiated to avoid the war, but he would not have been as well-known as he is today.---

What was negotiable? Slavery? Secession?

Or.....the South should be remembered for murdering tens of thousands of US soliders to preserve the power of the State to strip people of every right so they could be sold as property.

they are playing roots on a local station (our new maga governor was sworn in last weekend, and roots may be woke enough make some of our "children" uncomfortable)

So much for 'States' Rights', eh? The legacy of the antebellum south was murdering to preserve evil. That's what they should be remembered for.

Always.

No, it could not have been negotiated.

The Southern landowners were not giving up their slaves.
Exactly

There was no middle ground for slave owners.
It was their “property“and they were not going to willingly give it up.

Additionally, they considered blacks to be subhuman and a danger if not controlled.

Trump is wrong.

The feds were NEVER going to permit secession.

Negotiating with terrorist psychopath Lincoln would have been as useful as inviting Hitler to Shabbat so he could see Jews weren't really so bad.

To think otherwise is willfully ignorant.

Making states stay in the Union at the point of a bayonet is nothing more than a hostage situation.

Considering we are talking about a nation that had 40 percent of its population in slavery, that is an odd claim

Confederacy: We are nothing but HOSTAGES
Slaves: Tell me about it
