HTS's prior affiliation with Al Qaeda should be concerning. But at the end of the day, we are here because of Assad's incompetence, managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. If you are relying on foreign troops to prop up your regime, then you become less a leader and more a quisling.

Now the Russians and Iranians are too preoccupied to help him, and his own troops are throwing down their guns because he hasn't been paying them.
